High technology employed at Hood enables us to produce top performance roller genoas. Any genoa can be adapted to make it rollable, but if it wasn't designed to work partially rolled your boat will never achieve the performance it was built for.
The radial cut genoas radial panels ensure the sailcloth is oriented in a constant direction, both when the sail is used completely unfurled or partially rolled down in strong wind conditions. Luff foam (optional) is sewn along the luff so the leading edge will remain flat and not "fat", as happens with any other genoa when it's reefed to the jib roller. The radial cut genoa is produced from warp-oriented materials, either Dacron OR Polyester, Pentex or Spectra laminates and the panel layout means it can be made with differentiated weights. Panels in areas subject to greater stress, for instance, the leech, can be in a heavier sailcloth than central areas where the load is certainly less. This means the sail can be lighter, improving performance under light wind conditions whilst still ensuring the sail is robust enough to endure a wide range of wind intensities. Attention to detail This, together with reinforcement extending from the tack along the foot, improves resistance in the areas most subject to stress when the sail is partially reefed. Markings along the foot can be added to indicate the optimum roll positions. The standard Cruising or furling genoa is made crosscut or horizontally cut from Hood Dacron or Vektron. The furling genoa comes standard with the UV protection cover fitted. | ||
